TEENAGE GIRLS KILLED IN HUNTER VALLEY CRASH

A senseless waste of young lives. That’s how Hunter Valley police have described a crash that claimed the lives of two teenage girls and injured four other teens near Maitland late on Wednesday night.

Inspector Brian Tracey of the Central Hunter Command says a Ford Falcon sedan carrying six people was being driven at high speed along Raymond Terrace Road near Thornton just before midnight when it crashed into a tree. Three people were thrown more than 10 metres from the car on impact.

A 17-year-old girl from Singleton was killed instantly, while a 15-year-old girl was flown to the John Hunter Hospital with head and internal injuries. She later died.

The four males also in the car were taken to the John Hunter Hospital with varying injuries.

Police say the car was barely recognisable when they arrived at the scene, and they believe speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.

“We can only just plead that this ridiculous carnage stops”, said Brian Tracey at the scene.
