NO QUICK FIX ON FATE OF FIGS

It could be well into next year before a final decision is made about whether or not to chop down the Laman Street figs.

Newcastle Council is now considering carrying out a $30,000 “pull test” on the iconic trees.

  1. NCC are doing anything but dithering with the trees. The trees are a far different case to the famous ROCK. i suggest NBN watch the youtube video re our anzac connections & please try to understand further the deep connection with these trees & our beloved cathedral This avenue is close to the hearts of many & worthy of delay to gather facts about their structural integrity.

  2. I for one am happy that more time will be taken by council to look at this issue – assessing the safety of the trees scientifically is what they should have done from the beginning. The Rock fell – no trees or branches have fallen in Laman Street

  3. Now that council are going to be putting fences in rather than mosquito-breeding barriers it will be even uglier. Council officers are so clever, aren’t they? Thanks for inteviewing Mr Laman’s family – the connection we all feel with this street is similar.
