CHINDERAH PROTEST TO SAVE CREEK

Chinderah residents say they won’t stop protesting until a controversial Tweed Shire Council decision to concrete a tidal creek is overturned.

Today they voiced their concerns on the banks of the waterway.

  1. another great decision by the TSC – most expensive option (there are others) destroys the natural environment and upsets local residents.
    Haven’t they read/seen the media reports concerning the oceans being over fished??
    we should be protecting fish breeding grounds not destroying them.
    If the acid suphate gets into the waterway say goodbye to marine life in the Tweed River.
    Anyone who likes snorkelling, fishing, eating fish or mud crabs, wants marine life in the Tweed river should be protesting this decision as all of these activities and industries are in danger.
    Aside from the environmental impact, the flood escape route for residents of the caravan park is being blocked off placing them in jeopardy, there was no proper consultation or notification, again the communities right to have a say what happens in their area has been undermined.
    and i want to know a) who owns the industrial block this road is being developed for ?? and b) who owns/is director of the construction company who has been given the job??
    Cr Kevin Skinner promised to take the options presented to him and share them at council. Good on him for turning up, now let’s encourage him to do the right thing and follow through on his promise. It’s time someone other than Katie did the right thing by the environment and the community. He said the reason the TSC couldn’t rescind the decision was because of a possible lawsuit if the developers couldn’t go ahead, but surely armed with options that wouldn’t be the case???? Go Kevin!
