A 60 kilometre per hour speed limit came into force today on Lyons Road at Sawtell between the Pacific Highway and Toormina Road intersections.
Coffs Harbour City Council lowered the limit from 80 kilometres per hour following requests from members of the community who were concerned about safety.
A spokesperson for the council said lowering speed limits has proven to be the most effective means of helping to reduce crashes and injuries.
