CLARENCE COUNCIL VOTES AGAINST RATE HIKE

Ratepayers in the Clarence Valley won’t be facing the prospect of a major rate hike following a decision by the council not to seek an increase above the capped limit of 2.6 per cent.

Councillors voted against seeking a 5.5 per cent additional increase, which would have been used to pay for infrastructure upgrades.

The proposal would have raised $6-million over five years to maintain halls, libraries and main streets throughout the Clarence Valley.
