RESIDENTS ENCOURAGED TO REPORT PETTY CRIME

Reporting crime, no matter how petty it may seem, is one way to ensure the Manning Valley gets the police resources it needs, according to the local mayor.

Even if an arrest seems unlikely, Councillor Paul Hogan says it’s vital that minor criminal acts are reported to police.

That ensures they’re reflected in the region’s crime statistics, which are taken into account when police staffing levels are determined.

Taree businesses are often the targets of vandalism and minor theft, with owners left to pick up the cost.

Non-urgent matters can be reported to the Police Community Service hotline on 131 444.
