A proposal to turn Newcastle’s old Kensington Theatre into a nightclub, has been slammed by the city council.
The applicant wants to use the liquor licence from the former Jolly Roger nightclub at the site, and gain permission for the new club to stay open until 4am.
The move follows the successful implementation of a city-wide 1:30am curfew.
“This flies in the face of all that, and I don’t believe it would get and support from the Newcastle community to be opening that late.”
