WINNING STREAK FOR CHESS CHAMPS

What started as a project to help students concentrate at school, has turned into a champion chess team.

Port Macquarie’s Westport Public School has made it through to the final five of the New South Wales Junior Chess League Interschool Competition which attracted 1,000 teams.

After beating Armidale’s St Mary’s Primary in the quarter final, the team will now play Newcastle’s, Junction Public School in the semi-final.

As well as their success in the state-based contest, the Westport students have earned themselves a spot at the Nationals to be played in Melbourne at the end of the month.
