Three Anglican priests working in the Newcastle Diocese have been stood down, pending a police investigation.
Two priests had their licenses suspended last Thursday, a third was stood down on Tuesday after the Anglican Church deemed they’d breached its code of professional conduct.
The church won’t confirm or deny if there’s been a complaint of a sexual nature.
“I can’t say what the nature of the allegation is because it might inhibit the investigations the police I think are going to undertake.” said Bishop Brian Farran.
The complaint is believed to have originated from interstate, and is thought to date back several years.
