The general medical unit of Cessnock Hospital has been forced to turn away patients due to a gastroenteritis outbreak.
Hunter New England Health is asking people to put off visiting friends and relatives there until further notice.
No new patients will be allowed access to the unit, until current patients show signs of recovery.
Gastroenteritis is highly infectious, and can spread through direct and indirect contact.
