NORTH COAST SURF REPORT 04-09-09

Small clean and cold surf on offer at the back beaches along the North Coast this morning. Why are they called back beaches? Probably because the most predominate surf conditions are created when southerly winds fan the points and bays up and down the coast. This means the beaches that face the north are most protected and produce cleaner waves. So when the winds are from the north we head to those backbeaches lurking on the southern side of the headlands.

Our pictures today were taken at Gallows on the southern side of the harbour in Coffs Harbour around 10 o’clock this morning. Although the wind was blowing quite strong the surf is protected by the island or headland. The waves were clean around half to one metre and looked fun for the few blokes out.

Southerlies are forcast for Saturday so it may be back to the front beaches over the weekend. Cheers, Noel.
