Corrective Services Minister John Robertson assured Prison Officers at a recent POVB management conference that any new gaol in Grafton area would remain in Public hands. Now he is sitting on the fence and being typically evasive. Another untrustworthy Labor politician. Grafton Gaol is old and a new larger gaol may service the Northern Region more efficiently but only if in public hands. All the funds allocated to the facility would be used to provide programs and sevices for inmates and wages for staff. No funds would be diverted for profit to a private company. Gaols provide a service to the public and should be in public hands.
