A nasty flu season in the New England region is playing havoc with local blood supplies, with regular donors stuck in bed, collections have been consistently low at most New South Wales blood banks.
“We have suffered, not only locally in Tamworth and Armidale but also across the state,” said Tamworth Blood Bank spokesperson Sandee Thompson.
“We have received calls, probably on a daily basis of regular donors unfortunately having to cancel their appointments because they are unwell due to colds as flus.”
The Blood bank is calling for new and lapsed donors to help pump up stock levels.
