The New South Wales Government has backed down on controversial plans to auction Mackville’s Thistle Park for a housing development.
Nambucca Shire Council had sought to buy the land two years ago, but the deal was scuttled when the government learned the council planned to sell the land to the Catholic Church.
The church had sought to buy the land to build a new school, to replace the overcrowded St Patrick’s Primary.
The government will now re-open discussions with the council over the use of the land.
