SHOCK DEFEAT FOR KOOKABURRAS

Central North rugby union players have started their Country Championship campaign with mixed success.

The first grade team took on the Central West in Narrabri, where a late try to the western visitors handed the kookaburras a 24 all draw.

Ordinarily the team with the most tries is declared the winner, however with both teams scoring four tries the game was awarded to the Central West players, who scored the first try.

Central North’s junior players had better luck, after trailing by 11-points at half time, the colts staged a remarkable comeback to win the game 22 to 14.

Both teams travel to Dubbo next weekend. The first grade team will contest the Richardson Shield, with the colts still in the running for the Caldwell Cup.
