When Newcastle began cracking down on alcohol-fuelled, anti-social behaviour, many said the offenders would just head elsewhere.
It seems they were right, with Maitland now under siege and authorities trying to rein-in revellers.

I would like to comment on the interview with Ralph Ward the Chair of the Maitland Liquor Accord. A voluntary restrictions were taken on by the majority of the local accord members. Some of the Maitland CBD venues are refusing to follow the restrictions mainly to do with the selling of high alcohol volume RTD’S shoots and drink bombs after 11pm. A lot more could be done in the Maitland CBD to stop this late night problems if it was not for some greedy late night venue owners.
