A truck driver spent five hours trapped in his overturned rig after a collision on the F3 Freeway, south of Morisset. The tip truck carrying a load of concrete, collided with a small sedan just after 8am.

The driver of the car, a young woman, suffered neck injuries and was airlifted to Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital by the Westpac rescue helicopter.

The 70-year-old truck driver was pinned by the legs in the cabin of his truck as specialist rescue crews worked to free him.

There were delays and diversions in place for north-bound traffic for the duration of the operation.
