TROPFEST DIRECTOR SPEAKS

After failing to make the final 16 when she first entered Tropfest three years ago, Newcastle’s Genevieve Clay was confident she’d be reading about her win when she cast Gerard O’Dwyer as her lead.

The 24 year old was the inspiration behind ‘Be my Brother’.
A film about a man with Down syndrome who charms a woman at a bus stop.
Gerard, also named best actor, hopes winning at the world’s biggest short film festival is the start of a long career.

Judged by a panel that included Vince Colosimo and Rachel Ward the film beat more than 600 entries.
