BLUE-GREEN ALGAL BLOOM PROMPTS WARNING
Swimmers are being warned to stay out of the Keepit and Copeton dams following a blue-green algal bloom.
Authorities say the algae is potentially toxic and may cause gastroentiritis, as well as skin and eye irritations.
Locals and visitors are being advised to avoid water showing any hint of colour, and boiling beforehand is not enough to guarantee that it’s safe to use.
Authorities are also advising landholders to remove stock from the dam area as the algae can cause illness and even death.
