COAL CHAR PLANT GO AHEAD

Newcastle-based company, North West Projects, has been given the green light to build a $12.5-million coal char plant,

on the former abattoir site at Quia Road in Gunnedah.

The company’s development application was approved at a Council meeting this week, but not without drama.

Four of the town’s eight councillors voted against the plant, citing noise and pollution as major concerns.

As mayor, Adam Marshall is entitled to two votes and Mr Marshall used his second vote to support and pass the plan.

The development will be built in nine stages and create at least 20 new jobs.
