LITTE TERNS BREEDING SITE

The endangered Little Tern will receive some additional protection with the closure today of a beach access at Hearnes Lake near Coffs Harbour.

The failure of many breeding sites this year, including one at Sawtell due to dune erosion, has made the Hearnes Lake site one of the most significant in the state.

Around 60 breeding pairs of the seabirds are currently nesting near the Flat Top Entrance to Hearnes Lake Beach.

The access will be closed for two weeks and vehicle owners are advised to use an alternate beach access nearby.
