MOREE POLICE OFFICERS FACE CHARGES

A commission of inquiry has recommended criminal charges be laid against two Moree police officers, who admitted they helped a colleague avoid a drink-driving charge.

Constables James Boaden and Phil Smith have admitted to fabricating evidence after a corrective services officer, David John Webb, was brought in after failing a roadside breath test.

Webb worked at the Moree police station.

In May, the two constables told an inquiry they blew into a breath analysis machine on Mr Webb’s behalf, so it appeared he was under the legal limit.

During the hearing, Constable Boaden said he felt intimidated by the station’s duty officer, Geoff Budd.
