GRAIN EXPORTS PICKING UP IN NEWCASTLE

Another sign the drought is easing – the first major grain shipment in almost 18 months left Newcastle over the weekend, when 27,000 tonnes of wheat was loaded for the Middle East.

Only 18,000 tonnes of barley was exported in the last financial year, compared to 790,000 tonnes of grain a year earlier.

More shipments are expected over the coming months.
