The man responsible for some of Newcastle’s most useful attractions has passed away.
The entertainment centre, the refurbished showground and new boating facilities on Newcastle Harbour were all developed with the help of George Keegan.

Your newsreader tonight said George Keegan was our first non-Labor MLA. I heard a similar report recently on NBN. Much as I respect George’s cotrbution to our community, I also honour and revere the late Frank Purdue. He was our Independent Lord Mayor for many years before being elected as an Independent MLA.
