FIRE BUG FACES COURT

A 23-year-old volunteer fire fighter accused of deliberately lighting fires around Inverell faced court in Moree today.

Justin Thomas Broadbent was charged with 13 counts of arson, after his arrest yesterday morning.

The charges relate to fires lit within a 15 kilometre radius of Inverell, on public property, but some of which spread to privately owned land.

The rural fire service volunteer was refused bail, and is due to reappear in Inverell Local Court on Thursday.

Detectives are still investigating a further 43 suspicious blazes in the area, which occurred between December 2007 and last Friday night.
