PACIFIC HIGHWAY UPGRADE DELAYED
Massive budget cuts on the Northern Rivers has seen the Tintenbar-Ewingsdale Pacific Highway upgrade delayed indefinitely.
$245-million of promised funding for the Far North Coast section of the highway, including Banora Point has been cancelled.
The decision to defer New South Wales’s contributions to the jointly funded project has outraged motorists and residents alike.
The road has claimed four lives in less than a month on the Northern Rivers this year.

The upgrade to the Pacific Highway should never have been selected to follow the existing highway. This highway is a tourist highway allowing people to visit the fishing and holiday areas of the north coast. As soon as double B trucks were allowed to travel the Pacific Highway, Tintenbar Hill became a nightmare as trucks travel over the speed limit of 70kph. On one occasion a row of 11 double B trucks were driving south. Take the double B trucks off this section of highway and the accident rate will fall.
