FIGHT FOR AIRLINE STEPS UP

Narrabri Shire Council has met with Qantaslink and state government representatives in Sydney, in a last ditch attempt to secure an airline to service the town.

Qantaslink has confirmed it will not continue the service past March next year, saying the route is under performing and is unviable.

It will however continue operating the Moree to Sydney service until 2013.

Mayor, Robyn Faber, says the Ministry of Transport today agreed to call for expressions of interest on the route which will close on Friday.

She says the department had received verbal inquiries from other airlines ahead of today’s meeting.
