FARMER GUILTY OF ANIMAL CRUELTY

A 73-year-old Pilliga woman has been found guilty of aggravated cruelty and failing to provide proper and sufficient food to cattle.

Ruth Downy appeared in Narrabri Local Court this week, on charges relating to 48 malnourished cattle.

They were ordered to be put down last year on the advice of two independent vets.

The RSCPA says the defendant refused to accept advice relating to the care of her cattle and failed to follow written feeding instructions.

Downey has been placed on a good behaviour bond and was ordered to pay around $295,000 in costs.
