BORAL BACKFLIP

Boral Timbers has admitted it intends to keep the wood supply agreement attached to the Walcha timber mill and process logs elsewhere.

Member for Northern Tablelands Richard Torbay and the council met with the company today in the hope another operator could take over the facility which shut down in August.

But Boral says it received no expressions of interest from prospective operators, and any informal enquiries suggested the mill was unviable.

However the company admits it didn’t advertise when it extended its expressions of interest phase.

Mr Torbay says he’s disappointed with the decision and will hold further meetings to find new business opportunities for the town.
