WORRIED WHITTINGHAM COULD WIN FLOOD STUDY

There has been a small step forward for Whittingham and Scotts Flat residents concerned about erosion of the banks of the Hunter River.

Last night Singleton Council discussed another flood study of the area, but it does depend on funds being provided by the Department of Environment and Climate Change.

The locals say in-stream vegetation is accelerating the damage, and they’re worried another major flood could have catastrophic consequences.

The Hunter Central Rivers Catchment Authority has written to the council saying it doesn’t believe removing the trees would be consistent with current management practices.
