COFFS GOES SOLAR

Coffs Harbour is set to get its first solar-powered building.

A solar grid-feed system will be installed on top of the city’s art gallery and library, and will provide half of the power needed to run the air conditioning system and lighting.

The solar-power project is part of a program to reduce the council’s carbon dioxide production.

It is being funded by a $735,000 state government grant, and will save more than $25,000 each year in electricity costs.

Work on the project is expected to begin by the middle of next year.
