KALANG RIVER VIRUS

The Kalang River doesn’t look like it will reopen to oyster farming at Urunga any time soon,
despite efforts to locate the source of a virus which has been detected in oysters.

The norovirus which causes gastroenteritis in humans, is thought to have come from a sewage discharge into the river sometime last month.

So far the search for the source has been unsuccessful, authorities say it could be difficult to trace.

In the meantime oyster farmers are unable to sell their produce, and no timetable has been given for a re-opening of the river.
