Tamworth is moving towards a cleaner and greener landfill, following a $1-million makeover.
The Forest Road facility now has a small vehicle transfer station, allowing residents to drive in and drop off their waste more easily.
Council says the new undercover station is safer, more convenient and cleaner, and will help to recover more recycling materials.
400 vehicles visit the Tamworth landfill site each day, and 80 per cent of those, which have less than four tonnes of waste, are expected to use the new facility.
