EMERGENCY RESPONSE TESTED AT AIRPORT

The emergency response to a possible aviation disaster on the Mid North Coast was tested in Coffs Harbour today.

Local police, fire, ambulance and SES crews engaged with airport staff in a mock emergency exercise.

The drill simulated an engine fire on board an aircraft.

The tarmac emergency tested response times and safety measures, including the successful evacuation of the airport terminal.

The exercises are carried out every two years at regional airports, to meet the safety regulations of the Civil Aviation Authority.
