FISHING BAN MANN AND NYMBOIDA RIVERS

The survival of the endangered Eastern Freshwater Cod has prompted the closure of the Mann and Nymboida Rivers west of Grafton to all fishing over the next three months.

The Clarence and Richmond river systems once teemed with the rare fish which is now found naturally in only two isolated tributaries of the Clarence.

It’s the first time a ban has been imposed on fishing during the cod’s breeding season.

A breach of the ban, which comes into effect tomorrow, carries a penalty of up to $22,000.
