JOHNS RIVER POST-BYPASS

Thousands of motorists pass through Johns River each year, but come 2010 the traffic will slow to a trickle.

The small town will be bypassed as part of a Pacific Highway upgrade, a move which the local council and residents are hoping is a positive one.

“There is no doubt Johns River will have some challenges once the bypass is relocated, from council’s point of view it’s the major entry in the town and the northern gateway to our local government area and we’re keen to give it our best shot to see if we can maintain the viability of this village.”

To help ensure the viability of the small town Greater Taree City Council is planning some new features and improved public facilities to draw travellers into the area.

The plan will be presented at a public forum at the Johns River community hall on Thursday night.
