WRIGHT CHASING PODIUM FINISH AT TRESTLES

Lennox Head surfer¬†Tyler Wright’s feeling positive, approaching the tail end of the 2016 Championship Tour. The 22 year old will be chasing another podium finish when the Swatch Womens Pro gets underway at Trestles later this week. “Honestly, it’s like a skatepark for surfing. It’s the closest thing we ever have to a consistent wave. Hopefully we have a swell. It means we can get like three to four foot just dream right-handers and lefts that you can pretty much do anything on.” Wright currently sits atop the tour leaderboard, 550 points clear of 2nd-placed Courtney Conlogue. WILKINSON TO FACE KENNEDY AT MARGARET RIVER

The waiting period for the Margaret River Pro opens tomorrow, with Byron Bay resident and current tour leader Matt Wilkinson to face the in-form Stu Kennedy for the first time this season. Adam Melling will also contest the event in Western Australia – facing fellow Aussies Kai Otton and Julian Wilson in his heat. YOUNG KNOCKS OUT KENNEDY AT BELLS

Stu Kennedy won’t be making a finals appearance at Bells Beach, after being bundled out in the third round of the Ripcurl Pro. The Lennox Head product struggled against Nat Young of the United States. His two-wave score of 7.67 the lowest of the round. Young nearly doubled that easily, finishing with a combined score of 13.5. Kennedy’s exit leaves Tyler Wright as the region’s only surfer left in the competiton. (AUDIO IN PARTS)
