WEST KEMPSEY PAIR TO FACE COURT OVER ALLEGED TAXI ROBBERY

A man and a woman will face court over the alleged robbery of a mid north coast taxi driver. Police say that the taxi driver picked up the man and woman at a taxi rank on Belgrave Street in Kempsey on Monday afternoon. The pair were driven to Leith Street in West Kempsey, where the man allegedly threatened the driver, demanding her mobile phone and money. The taxi driver complied and the pair walked off. Police inquiries led them to a unit block in Leith Street yesterday afternoon, and after a brief struggle with police, a man in his 30’s and a 21-year-old woman were arrested. They were charged with a number of related offences including demanding money with menaces and not paying the authorised fare.

TAXI DRIVER ROBBED AND PUSHED FROM VEHICLE ON THE GOLD COAST

A man from NSW has been charged following a violent robbery on the Gold Coast on Friday. Around 2:30pm yesterday, a man entered a taxi on Wardoo Street in Southport, before allegedly assaulting the driver on Nerang-Broadbeach Road in Carrara. Police then say he then forced the driver out, and drove off in the taxi. The vehicle was later found at a licensed premises in Canungra, where a 32-year-old man was taken into custody. He was later charged with robbery with violence, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, stealing and wilful damage The 27-year-old taxi driver was not injured.
