MATT BANTING PROGRESSES IN HAWAII

Port Macquarie’s Matt Banting has dominated his round three heat, at the season ending, 10,000 point qualifying series event in Hawaii. He backed up an early seven point five with a six point eight. Banting finished almost five points in front of his nearest rival, moving on to face the likes of Byron Bay’s Kyuss King and America’s Tanner Gudauskas in round four. (AUDIO IN PARTS)

SUFFOLK PARK SURFER PROGRESSES ROUND 4 IN VANS TRIPLE CROWN

He left his run late, but Suffolk Park board rider Soli Bailey has progressed to round four of the Vans World Cup. With only the one strong score to his name, the natural footer’s hopes looked dim after a challenge from Patrick Gudauskas. But the fight wasn’t over. With 40 seconds on the clock, the 23-year-old found himself a 3-point-2 to book a place in the next round. Fellow North Coast surfer Stu Kennedy was eliminated. (VISION ONLY)

NORTH COAST SURFERS THROUGH TO ROUND 3 VANS WORLD CUP

To surfing, and Suffolk Park’s Soli Bailey had a dream run in round-two of the Vans World Cup at the world-famous Sunset Beach. The 23-year-old blitzed the competition – snatching two of the heat’s highest wave scores just five minutes in. Meanwhile, Lennox Head’s Stu Kennedy started off on the back foot in heat 16….before a mid-range score of six moved him clear of Luke Shepardson and Liam O’Brien. His backup score, a 4-point-6 enough to ensure safe passage to the next round. Both North Coast representatives will hit the waves for round-three in the coming days. (VISION ONLY)

SEVENTH HEAVEN FOR STEPH GILMORE

Australia’s Steph Gilmore has claimed a record equalling seventh world surfing title. The Tweed Heads local dominated her round one heat at the Maui Pro in Hawaii yesterday, with her only remaining challenger Lakey Peterson knocked out in the second round. Peterson’s exit from the event secured the natural footer the title, which she last won in 2014. The only other female surfer to lift the trophy on seven occasions was fellow Aussie Layne Beachley.

TWO NORTH COAST SURFERS SET TO HIT THE WAVES IN QS 10,000 EVENT

Far North Coast surfers Soli Bailey and Stu Kennedy are set to hit the water tomorrow in the Vans World Cup at the world famous Sunset Beach. While they would need a huge result to qualify for the championship tour next year, both are keen to continue a strong run of form. Bailey from Suffolk Park is currently ranked 16th in the QS series, after he scored his best result this year, finishing in the Quarter Finals at the Hawaiian Pro earlier this month. The 23-year-old will face Nat Young, Gatien Delahaye and Reo Inaba in Round 2 at the north shore break. Kenney from Lennox Head has moved up one place on the rankings to 35th and will face Alejo Muniz, Luke Shepardson and fellow Aussie Liam O’Brien. (VISION ONLY)

STRONG RESULT FOR SOLI BAILEY IN HAWAII

Suffolk Park boardrider Soli Bailey scored his best result of the year at the QS 10,0000 event at Haleiwa. The 23-year-old knocked out in the quarters, in a heat dominated by Brazilian Deivid Silva. Bailey will now head to the Vans World Cup at Sunset Beach next week. Lennox Head surfer Stu Kennedy was eliminated in round three. (VISION ONLY)
