CARMICHAEL ADVANCES TO ROUND THREE ON GOLD COAST

Avoca’s Wade Carmichael has made his way into the third round of the Quiksilver Pro on the Gold Coast. The 25-year-old leaving his highest-scoring wave of 6.07 until the dying stages. Meanwhile, Copacabana’s Matt Wilkinson was eliminated this morning. His two-wave total of 8.97 not enough to progress against South African Michael February. Adrian Buchan will take on Jeremy Flores in round three, while Carmichael faces Adriano de Souza. (Audio in parts)

HOLMES THROUGH TO FINAL DAY OF CENTRAL COAST PRO

North Shelly’s Shane Holmes has continued his impressive run at the Central Coast Pro. He took out his Round 4 heat by half a point. Fellow local Ryan Slattery also did enough to advance to the fifth round at Avoca Beach. But not so lucky today for Kurtis Vaughan and Riley Laing, who were both knocked out of contention. While Avoca’s Kirra-Belle Olsson will feature in the women’s quarterfinals. (Audio in parts)

HOLMES NARROWLY MISSES A SPOT IN THE FINALS

Central Coast surfer Shane Holmes has fallen agonisingly short in the quarterfinals of the Great Lakes Pro. It was neck-and-neck until the final stages, until a priority mistake gave the Shelly Beach surfer a chance to take the lead, with just five seconds remaining. Holmes finished just half a point behind Cronulla’s Jared Hickel. (audio in parts)
