BREAKERS CLINCH MINOR PREMIERSHIP

Reigning Group 3 champions Port City have taken out the minor premiership, finishing eight points clear of Macleay Valley. Port Macquarie, Taree and the Old Bar Pirates, rounding out the top five. The Breakers capped off their undefeated season with a 66-point thrashing of Forster-Tuncurry, ensuring the Hawks finish with the wooden spoon.

HOLLIS GETS ORIGIN CALL-UP

Wauchope teenager David Hollis is about to realise his rugby league dreams. He’s been named in the final New South Wales under 16s squad, to take on Queensland in next week’s Origin 3 curtain-raiser. Hollis moved to Sydney at the start of the year to play for the Parramatta Eels. He’s previously made the state and national schoolboy teams, but this will be the first time he pulls on the Blues jersey.

TEAMS PROGRESS IN COUNTRY CUP

In rugby league, St Joseph’s Regional College will play in the under 13s and 18s Country Cup semi finals, while Camden Haven High will contest the under 15s. They’ve all progressed after winning their respective divisions at today’s North Coast final in Port Macquarie. Students from Taree to Coffs Harbour battled it out in wet conditions, in the second round of the knockout competition.
