COASTIES UP FOR ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

Two Central Coast sports stars are in the running to be named the state’s male athlete of the year. Riley Fitzsimmons and Nick Yallouris have both represented Australia this year and brought home gold medals. Riley took out a world kayaking championship in September, while Nick is pedalling towards Commonwealth Games selection. The winner will be announced at a gala dinner in Sydney on November 16. COAST PAIR POWER INTO FINALS

After celebrating his 21st Birthday, Riley Fitzsimmons is through to the final of the K2 1000, at the Junior and Under-23 Canoe Sprint World Championships in Romania. While surf lifesaving star Jemma Smith has made an immediate impact on the International stage, qualifying for the Junior Womens K1 1000.

FITZSIMMONS FIRES AT OPENING GRAND PRIX

Olympian Riley Fitzsimmons surprised himself finishing second in the K1-1000 at the opening Canoe Sprint Grand Prix in Adelaide. He’ll now enjoy the Christmas break at a quiet location near Crescent Head. His goals in 2017; representing New South Wales in lifesaving, and his country in the World under-23 Kayaking Championships in Romania.

ANOTHER PODIUM FINISH FOR AVOCA PADDLER

After winning gold in Germany last week with Ken Wallace, Jacob Clear and Jordan Wood; Avoca lifesaver Riley Fitzsimmons has had another podium finish in the K4 1000, this time, at the World Cup in the Czech Republic. The Australian crew were fourth at the 250 metre mark, but stormed home in the final 200 to claim the silver behind Germany. The next World Cup commences in Portugal on Friday.
