RICHMOND VALE RAILWAY MUSEUM TO REOPEN FOR BUSINESS

The Richmond Vale Railway Museum is back on track after a fierce bushfire tore through much of its collection last September. The museum will re-open to the public this weekend, having repaired some of the more than a million dollars worth of damage to rollingstock and timber sleepers. It briefly hosted a special Christmas event in November, but has since remained off-limits. The doors will open at 9:30 on Sunday morning. (VISION ONLY)

SANTA CATCHES THE TRAIN TO RICHMOND VALE

There was some early – but much-needed – Christmas cheer today, at Richmond Vale Railway Museum. Santa arrived by steam train, together with Mrs Claus and the elves, delighting kids and parents. It’s the first time the trains have been up and running since a bushfire tore through the area in September, destroying rolling stock and forcing the museum to close. The money raised today will go towards the rebuild. (audio in parts)

50 YEARS OF NBN: RICHMOND VALE RAILWAY – 1987

In 1987, Coal and Allied decided to retire its fleet of steam trains and instead haul coal from its Hunter mines using trucks. But the men who worked on the Richmond Vale Railway didn’t go without a fight, and NBN’s cameras were there to capture the drama. This 50th lookback is a cut down version of a one hour program that won cameraman David Threlfo and the NBN news team a Logie.
