SHARK PROMPTS EVACUATION OF FORSTER BEACH

There were dramatic scenes at Forster’s Main Beach this morning, with a shark prompting the evacuation of hundreds of swimmers. Lifeguards raised the alarm shortly before 11, after a helicopter spotted what’s believed to be a 2.6 metre grey nurse. The Department of Primary Industries says while it wasn’t considered to be dangerous, the shark was swimming very close to shore.

SHARK STATION BACK UP AND RUNNING

More than two months after it was damaged, Port Macquarie’s shark listening station is back up and running. The Department of Primary Industries yesterday replaced the device, which was installed at Lighthouse Beach earlier this year. The buoy was snapped in half by rough seas during the east coast low in August.
