81-YEAR-OLD WOMAN BITTEN DURING DOG ATTACK IN NEW LAMBTON

An elderly woman has undergone surgery after a dog bit her during a frightening attack in New Lambton yesterday. The 81-year-old was walking her dog along Queen’s Road around 12:30pm on Friday when a second dog known to the woman approached her. The woman attempted to evade the dog, but it attacked her and her dog, biting them a number of times. Witnesses saw the situation unfold, and came to the woman’s assistance, restraining the dog. The woman was taken via ambulance to the John Hunter Hospital, where she underwent surgery. Her dog suffered minor injuries. The dog that attacked the woman has been secured, and police are now liaising with the owner of the dog and local council.

STRIKE FORCE TO INVESTIGATE MAN’S DISAPPEARANCE

Police have established a strike force to investigate the suspicious disappearance of a Lake Macquarie man. 27-year-old Christopher Daunt was last seen in North Lambton visiting a friend on March 29. His family raised the alarm when he didn’t return to his Gateshead home and they failed to hear from him. Christopher is approximately 180-centimetres tall, with a thin build, brown hair and green eyes. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

MAN CHARGED AFTER PARAMEDIC ASSAULT

An 18-year-old man has been charged with the assault of a paramedic in New Lambton last night. Police were called to an Australia Day party on Bridges Road at around 9:30pm, following noise complaints. Upon arriving, officers were allegedly met by an aggressive and abusive man who was affected by alcohol and or drugs. It’s alleged he spat on a paramedic after an ambulance was called to treat him. The man’s facing charges including offensive behaviour, common assault and assault of an ambulance officer.
