BUSINESS CHAMBER CANCELS CANDIDATES FORUM AFTER JOYCE BACKS OUT

The Tamworth Business Chamber has been forced to cancel its upcoming ‘meet the candidates’ forum, ahead of the New England by-election. The event was due to take place in Town Hall next Monday night, but president Jye Segboer says only a handful of candidates expressed their interest in the event. He also said interest from the general public dropped off considerably, after it was confirmed Barnaby Joyce would not be taking part. (VISION ONLY)

BARNABY BACKS OUT OF CANDIDATE FORUMS

It’s been confirmed Barnaby Joyce won’t be participating in any candidate forums, ahead of the upcoming New England by-election. The National Party says it’s due to the large number of candidates that don’t live in the electorate… and that Mr Joyce would rather spend the time chatting to voters, than listening to ‘out-of-towners’. FIREARMS AND DRUGS SEIZED DURING STRIKE FORCE BURRIL

Established to investigate the alleged manufacture and supply of prohibited drugs, Strike Force Burril has yielded drugs, firearms and chemicals in the State’s New England region since May this year. The strike force has resulted in numerous charges being laid, including: – A 44-year-old man being charged with manufacturing a prohibited drug in a commercial quantity after a search warrant was executed at a house on Arnold Street in Spring Ridge just before 1pm on Wednesday. – A 23-year-old man charged with a number of offences, including possessing a shortened firearm, and possessing an unauthorised prohibited firearm, after police allegedly located five firearms and ammunition during a search of a property on Brewongle Road, Quirindi. – A 51-year-old charged with numerous drug and firearm offences after police allegedly seized revolvers, a shotgun, a hand grenade, ammunition, railway detonators and cannabis …

TWO MEN CHARGED IN SEPARATE CHILD GROOMING OFFENCES IN THE NEW ENGLAND REGION

Two men from the New England region have been arrested following separate child grooming investigations. Detectives began investigating the online activities of a Glen Innes man in relation to child grooming back in December As a result of their investigations, police executed a search warrant at a home on Short Street on Thursday, where they seized computers and storage devices that allegedly depicted images of child abuse. A 43-year-old man was subsequently charged with possession of child abuse material. In a separate investigation, police began communicating online in December with a man who police say, believed he was speaking with a 13-year-old girl. During the conversations the man allegedly made repeated sexually explicit comments about the girl, with police claiming he requested to meet with the child for sexual activity.
