CONSTABLE SPAT IN THE FACE ON THE GOLD COAST

A man has allegedly spat in the face of a police officer on the Gold Coast last night. Police responded to reports of a disturbance at an address on Nerang River Drive in Nerang, around 7.15pm. Police say a man at the address became aggressive towards them after they identified themselves, and attempts to calm the man down failed. As police attempted to restrain the man, he allegedly spat in one of the officers faces. The male Senior Constable was provided first aid at the scene and will undergo disease testing. A 24-year-old Nerang man has been charged with one count each of serious assault police and obstruct police. He will appear in the Southport Magistrates Court later this month.

WEAPONS AND DRUGS ALLEGEDLY DISCOVERED IN GOLD COAST VEHICLE SEARCH

Police have allegedly uncovered knives, knuckledusters, a rifle, and drugs during a search of a vehicle on the Gold Coast yesterday. Officers were conducting targeted patrols in Nerang, when they intercepted an unregistered Toyota Hilux on Southport Nerang Road around 7:30pm. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, police allege they discovered an amount of drugs including cocaine and methylamphetamine, along with a number of knives, knuckledusters, a rifle and ammunition. A 31-year-old man from Burleigh has been charged with 12 offences including weapons and drug possession. A 21-year-old Gaven woman was issued with a Notice to Appear for with unlawful possession of a weapon.

15-YEAR-OLD MISSING ON THE GOLD COAST

Assistance from the public is sought over a missing Gold Coast teenager. 15-year-old Jennifer has been missing from Nerang since Tuesday this week. Concerns are held for her welfare because she has not contacted friends or family. She was last seen wearing a black 3/4 sleeve jacket with numerous pockets, a t-shirt, a black skirt and black and white trainers. Jennifer is described as 172cm tall, around 55kgs, slim build, Caucasian in appearance, with dark brown long hair.

FIRE STRIKES TWO GOLD COAST PROPERTIES 30 MINUTES APART

Police are investigating after two separate fires destroyed property on the Gold Coast last night. Around 10pm, emergency services responded to calls of a building fire on Currumburra Road in Ashmore. On arrival, they found the property well alight. The building sustained extensive damage. Several adjoining businesses also were also damaged. No one was injured in the fire. Meanwhile in the second unrelated incident, at around 10:30pm police were notified of a second fire at the Broadbeach Road unit complex in Nerang. A unit was destroyed by the blaze, and a neighbouring property was also damaged. The unit was unoccupied at the time and no one was injured. Crime scenes have been established at both properties, and investigations continue.

MOTOCYCLIST KILLED ON THE GOLD COAST

A motorcycle rider has been killed in a crash on the Gold Coast this afternoon. Police responded to reports of a car and motorcycle crash on Mount Nathan Road in Nerang, just before 1pm today. The rider, a 46-year-old Waterford man, was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was injured.

CAR STOLEN FOLLOWING ALLEGED ASSAULT ON THE GOLD COAST

A man has had his vehicle stolen, following an alleged assault in his home on the Gold Coast. About 10:30pm on Friday, two men and a woman entered a unit on Price Street in Nerang, where one of the intruders allegedly assaulted the 24-year-old male occupant. The assailants then took the man’s car keys and drove off in his vehicle – a white 2011 Ford Falcon utility with Queensland registration 06RJL. The car was last seen on Price Street. The victim was taken to hospital with facial injuries.

MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO ATTACK ON 70-YEAR-OLD

A Judge has branded a man “a vigilante”, after he pummelled his friend’s step-grandfather outside a Nerang chemist. Aaron Carrey argued, he attacked 70 year old Bruce McNair after co-accused Tara Bell claimed McNair had assaulted her years prior. The court heard, Carrey had been released on parole for a home invasion a month before the attack. He pleaded guilty and was handed a two year sentence, but will be eligible for parole in January next year. Bell was yesterday acquitted by a jury.

MAN BURNED IN PRANK GONE WRONG

A man has suffered burns to half his body, after an alleged prank went wrong overnight. Police believe the 21 year old scaled a security fence at Nerang Railway Station and climbed an electrical pole, where he suffered an electric shock. He was taken to hospital in a serious condition.
