MOTORCYCLIST KILLED NEAR SUGARLOAF

A man has died after his VF Honda motorcycle collided with a four-wheel-drive north of Newcastle yesterday. Police say that the 31-year-old was travelling on Bingleburra Road, Sugarloaf, about 80km north of Newcastle around 12:30pm yesterday, when the incident occurred. The motorcyclist, from Moorebank, suffered critical injuries and died at the scene. The driver of the silver Landcruiser, a 42-year-old man from Scone, was not injured, and he was taken for mandatory blood and urine testing.

TOY RUN TEAMS UP WITH ‘OUR KIDS’

Santa’s once again saddled up his harley, for the 35th annual Northern Rivers charity toy run. Despite warm conditions, more than 330 people rode in the convoy between Lismore and Ballina this morning. “It’s just the goodwill of everyone. We can be mean and tough and everything like that, but we can also be nice and gentle at times too.” Every gift collected was donated to children’s charity ‘Our Kids’, who’ll distribute them on christmas morning. “The presents and the donations obviously we’ll give out in childrens ward, but also all the organisations we work through throughout the year.” (AUDIO IN PARTS)

MOTORBIKE RIDER DIES AFTER COLLIDING WITH A TRUCK AT ALSTONVILLE

A motorbike rider has died following a collision involving a truck near Alstonville around midday. It’s believed the male rider had turned from Ballina Road onto the Bruxner Highway and was in the merging lane when the crash happened. He died at the scene. The driver of the truck wasn’t hurt and was taken for mandatory testing. The highway was closed for several hours while the scene was cleared.

SECOND MOTORCYCLE CRASH IN 12 HOURS

A motorcycle crash last night marked the second in just over 12 hours on north coast roads. The Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter was tasked to reports a motorcycle had crashed down an embankment into trees, 5km north east of Mooball. The 68-year-old rider was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious condition with multiple¬† injuries. It comes after yesterday morning’s fatal motorcycle crash involving a truck at MacLean. Police have now launched a high visibility operation aimed at lowering the state’s road toll.

MOTORCYCLIST THROWN FROM VEHICLE IN MAITLAND

A motorcyclist has suffered serious injuries after colliding with a ute in Maitland last night. The 36-year-old male rider was thrown from his bike, after crashing with a Ford utility at the intersection of Robert Street and Goldingham Streets at Tenambit at around 8:30pm. The driver of the ute, a 62-year-old man, was uninjured but taken to John Hunter Hospital for mandatory tests. Investigations continue.
