MASTERS EMPLOYEES LEFT IN LIMBO

Staff at Lismore’s Masters store face an uncertain future, with Woolworths yesterday announcing¬†it’s walking away from the hardware retailer. The store, which opened less then 12 months ago, cost $11.5 million to construct and employs over 100 people. Management refused to comment on the chain’s future when contacted by NBN News today. AVOCA SLSC TAKES OUT MASTERS

The Avoca Surf Lifesaving Club has taken out the Central Coast’s Master’s titles, in a tight branch battle at Terrigal Beach today. Competitors from 14 clubs went head to head, as they prepare for upcoming state and national titles. Masters world champion Paul Lemmon says it’s an opportune time to train for the bigger comps. Terrigal’s Rachelle King and Jack Moyes were watching on and will be in the water tomorrow for the Open Branch titles. (AUDIO IN PARTS)

DIY BOOM LANDS ON TWEED COAST

It was bound to happen sooner or later – the D-I-Y boom has now hit the Tweed Coast. Council recently approved a development application for a Masters hardware store. It’ll be built in West Tweed – just off the Pacific Motorway on Parkes Road. Mayor Barry Longland says it’ll create hundreds of jobs for the community. “About 150 jobs when it’s fully running, and there’ll certainly be a lot more jobs than that during the construction of it.” Developers haven’t yet revealed when they’ll start building the superstore.

CRICKET GREATS HAVE NARROW WIN AT TWEED ACA MASTERS TOUR

The Tweed leg of the ACA Masters Tour has wrapped up at Kingscliff’s Reg Dalton Oval. And the cricket greats had better watch out… they were almost beaten at their own game by the region’s young guns. The teams went head to head in a Twenty20 match in front of a crowd of thousands… with the Tweed representative team scoring eight for 141, just five runs short of the Masters’ six for 146.
