THREE TEAMS FROM THE HUNTER PUSHING FOR THE WBL FINALS

With four rounds left in the Waratah Basketball League, Newcastle and Maitland’s mens teams, and the Hunters women can still make the playoffs. The Newcastle girls will look to maintain fifth spot when they host Penrith tomorrow. “We have a lot more confidence now, getting up and down the floor and doing it for each other I think is the main thing.” Susie Walmsley is enjoying being home after five seasons in the US. The 23 year old says playing at a higher level is the ultimate goal. “Growing up I always wanted to play in the WNBL but we’ll take it a step at a time.”

KOUAT NOI PREPARES FOR A BIG MONTH ON THE COURT

Teenager Kouat Noi will make his second appearance for Newcastle in the Waratah League tomorrow, looking to help the Hunters back into the winner’s circle as part of Reunion Night. Today he was teaching the next generation .. next month he’s off to France as part of the Australian Under 17 side. “We’ll have a pre game tournament there for a week and a bit, competing against the best athletes in the world, then a week later we move to Dubai for the World Championships.” Having won back the Kibble-Mallon Cup, Maitland travels to Bankstown tomorrow to take on the Bruins.

BEARS HUNT DOWN NEWCASTLE IN WARATAH BASKETBALL LEAGUE

WARATAH BASKETBALL LEAGUE Women NEWCASTLE 75 – NORTHS 67 Men NORTHS 82 – NEWCASTLE 71 PENRITH 80 – MAITLAND 75 A mixed night for Hunter basketball with Newcastle’s women beating Norths, while Maitland and the Hunters men came up short. Sitting just outside the top six, Newcastle made a bright start against the fourth place Bears. Justynn Hammond produced another big effort for the Hunters, scoring 28. Despite some impressive teamwork by the home side, the Bears won by 11.
