JETS SACK ASSISTANT COACH LUCIANO TRANI

Just a day after sacking head coach Scott Miller, the Newcastle Jets have parted company, with his assistant, Luciano Trani. It’s understood the coaches had a tense working relationship, with Trani sent home early from the team’s trip to China. Newcastle youth team coach, Clayton Zane, will oversee training until further notice. The club says the person appointed as head coach will have the chance to appoint their own assistant. As for Miller, Jets fans have started a petition to have the 34-year-old reinstated. More than 650 people have added their names to the list.

MCKINNA CALLS FOR GOSFORD WORLD CUP QUALIFIER

Gosford Mayor Lawrie McKinna says Central Coast stadium should be the next venue to host a World Cup qualifier. The Former Mariners coach slammed the playing surface of last night’s match down in Canberra and says a fixture on the coast is a no-brainer. Gosford Council is expected to meet with the FFA about a possible future fixture, in the coming weeks. (AUDIO IN PARTS)

MCKINNA RETAINS TOP JOB

Charismatic Gosford Mayor Lawrie McKinna, has been re-elected for a fourth consecutive year. The former Mariners coach earned 6 votes ahead of Liberal councillor Chris Burke with 4, to reclaim the top job. Councillor Craig Doyle was elected Deputy Mayor for the ninth time since 2002. His name was drawn from the ballot following a tied vote with councillor Jeff Strickson.
